It is summer and we have been participating in a few fairs locally. As part of our booth, we have been asking those interested, to guess the breed of different dogs that have had DNA tests done. We have the results for you! If you have not participated and want to guess for fun, you can look at the pictures below and then scroll down to the end of this newsletter for the answers.
We looked at a few studies on breed identification and found that visual identification of a breed is inaccurate even by the experts. It then makes sense that, unfortunately, none of the participants in our contest correctly guessed the breeds. This further illustrates that dogs do not always look like what they are or look like breeds they aren't.
When we train dogs, we don’t judge a dog by what he or she looks like, but treat the dog as an individual as they all are unique and special.
If you are interested in learning more about breed identification you can find lots more information here. Lots of Woofs!
